Goldsmith robbed of $1.5M at Plaisance market

An Ogle goldsmith was robbed of $1.5 million in gold and silver jewellery at the Plaisance/Industry Market on the East Coast of Demerara around 7:45 am yesterday.

According to a police release Tularam Deodat of Ogle Front, ECD, was putting out his jewellery in a glass case for sale when he was held up by two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. They took away the jewellery and escaped on a motorcycle.
Deodat made an attempt to pursue the bandits but stopped after the man with the firearm discharged a round into the air. Investigations into the matter continue.
