Man claiming to be victim and not robber remanded

Michael Reid, the Meadow Brook resident who had said that he was a victim and not a robber, was remanded to prison last Wednesday when he appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Reid, 23, of 193 Bamboo Drive appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton on October 24. Two indictable charges of robbery under arms were levelled against him.

It is alleged that on the night of October 20 at Meadow Brook Gardens, Georgetown, Reid, along with three accomplices, forced his way into the home of Vernon Forest and robbed the man and his friends while being armed with a firearm. Further, he allegedly robbed an East Coast couple of a quantity of cash and other items earlier this year.

The attorney representing Reid  had made an application for bail but the prosecution objected. Magistrate Octive-Hamilton ruled in favour of the prosecution and Reid was remanded to prison. He has to appear again in court on November 17.
Stabroek News had previously reported that four bandits, three brandishing firearms, had attacked Forest and three friends at his home while they were drinking.

The police in a press statement had said that the robbers were able to relieve their victims of two cellular phones and $6,000 cash. However, while this was happening, Forest managed to get his firearm and discharge one round at a bandit fatally wounding him in the abdomen. The dead man was identified as 20-year-old Raheem Lewis called ‘Muslim’.
Roy Carrington, one of the robbery victims, had said that one of the bandits had accidentally shot himself in the groin; the exact area where Reid sustained injuries.

Reid, who said he was attacked and robbed by two gunmen that Monday night, had denied allegations made by the victims that he was one of the four men who attempted to rob the Meadow Brook Drive home.
