Luck favoured several people last evening since no one was injured when a wagon transporting two patients slammed into another vehicle.
At approximately 6.15 pm, a silver mini-van, PLL 2970, was proceeding north along Conversation Tree attempting to cross the intersection at the Railway Embankment Road. A white wagon transporting two patients to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) was proceeding west along the Embankment Road when it slammed into the mini-van.
According to an eyewitness, the driver of the wagon, Leonard De Costo was speeding.
The mini-van driver, identified only as Serena, was behind another vehicle and drove across the intersection.
De Costo told Stabroek News that he was on his way to GPH from Ogle and his hazard lights were on. The man explained that the front of his vehicle collided with the right side of the mini-van.
“No one was injured,” De Costo explained. “One of the patients I was transporting bumped her head but that was all. Both of them have already been taken to the hospital.”
When this newspaper visited the scene at 6.30 pm the damaged vehicles were still there and traffic ranks were present. Serena, in a state of shock, was in her vehicle and her relatives were already present.
Serena could be heard telling the police that she was “fine” but she was feeling some amount of pain in her right leg and stomach area. One of the woman’s relatives said that the drivers spoke to each other and hopefully the matter would be settled.
“Both drivers are talking. There’s no blood and everything is alright,” Serena’s relative stated..
