Two men, including an employee, have been arrested in connection with Monday’s fatal shooting of businessman Ricardo Henriques, during a robbery.

Stabroek News understands that the employee was among several persons who had accompanied the 31-year-old US-based man to Juice Power on Middle Street to purchase water.
The man was arrested shortly after the incident, during which Henriques was also robbed of a bag containing a substantial amount of cash, reportedly representing money he had collected from persons that day.

The other man, this newspaper understands, was picked up subsequently and was riding a motorcycle that matched the description of the one the gunmen got away on.
Police, in a statement yesterday, said they are investigating the shooting. According to police, investigations revealed that Henriques, his father Richard Henriques and three employees went to Juice Power in a motor vehicle to purchase water.

While the employees went to make the purchase, two men rode up on a motorcycle and the pillion rider, who was armed with a gun, shot the younger Henriques in his head.  He then snatched a bag which contained an undisclosed sum of cash and escaped on the motorcycle along with his accomplice.

The elder Henriques gave chase behind the perpetrators but had to abandon his efforts after the armed bandit discharged rounds at him.  He was not injured. The younger Henriques was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police said an employee and another man have been arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations.

Richard Henriques had told reporters at the hospital that Ricardo decided to buy a lottery ticket at the Lotto booth near Juice Power.

The dead man, a father of two lived in the US and only returned to the country two weeks ago to do business. He was described as a wholesaler. He had been due to renew his US resident card today and was scheduled to return to the US on Friday.
