Edinburgh man shot near eye

An Edinburgh, Berbice man is nursing a gunshot wound near his left eye after a robbery while at the home of a friend around 2 am yesterday.

Twenty-six-year-old Marlon John is a patient of the New Amsterdam Hospital. A relative told Stabroek News that John was at the home of a female friend at the time of the incident. The relative said that the gunman entered the house by climbing up to the verandah and opening a window. He apparently went into the bedroom of the mother of John’s friend which he ransacked and took a quantity of jewellery. The man then went into the friend’s 6-year old daughter’s bedroom and hit her. He then demanded that she call her mother. The commotion and the child’s crying caused her mother and John to come out of their bedroom to see what was happening. When they came outside they were confronted by the bandit who upon seeing John hollered “is you ah looking fuh”.  He at this time let go of the child and the trio ran into the bedroom and braced the door. The gunman then fired a shot which pierced the door of the bedroom and hit John above his left eye. He then left the house via the way he came in.

The relative added that the bullet grazed the bone above John’s eye and that the swelling has prevented doctors from determining the extent of the injury.

Meanwhile a police press release said that the police are investigating the incident. It added that a warhead and a 9mm. spent shell were recovered at the scene by the police.
