City warns of plastic, styrofoam threat

Deputy Mayor Robert Williams and a team of engineers have found that excessive plastic and styrofoam containers are damaging the drainage networks.
In a press release the Mayor and City Council said the team found that these non-biodegradable materials are damaging pumps and disrupting drainage.

The meeting also said it may be necessary to establish retention or holding areas in the  drainage network “to hold storm water during high tide.” The team also intends to explore using modern technology to boost drainage.

The meeting also discussed convening a public forum in January to discuss the issues. At the same time, the Council urged the public to protect and preserve the environment by disposing of litter in the appropriate receptacles.
