Mother loses only child in East Coast accident

Husband died in crash two years ago

A mother has been left to mourn the loss of her only child after he died in an accident on the East Coast of Demerara shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

Dead is Sheik Amin of 263 Thomas Street, North Cummingsburg. The 28-year-old man died while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Hospital after he was mortally hurt in an accident between a car and a minibus at Lusignan on the East Coast.

According to a police press release minibus BJJ 4508 and motor car PLL 3227 were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.

The release said that it is alleged that the driver of the motor car turned across the road into the path of the minibus resulting in the collision. Amin was a passenger in the motor car.

The driver of the minibus Leon Murphy of Victoria Village East Coast Demerara suffered minor injuries and was taken for treatment.

His inconsolable mother Bibi Amin said that she last saw her son on Saturday morning when he left for work.

Relatives who gathered at the home to offer comfort related that there was a gift exchange at Demerara Distillers Limited, where Amin works. An aunt related that the man accompanied a friend to drop home another friend on the East Coast. They were heading back to Georgetown when tragedy struck. The driver of the car is in police custody assisting with investigations.

Meanwhile Bibi Amin also bemoaned the fact that she lost her husband just two years ago to another motor accident.

Farouk Amin died after he was knocked off his motorcycle on August 26, 2006 on Camp Street. The woman heard of her son’s accident through friends. But it was until she got the hospital that she learnt that he had died.
