Pork-knocker accused of converting gold

Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle remanded to prison a 37-year-old pork-knocker charged with two counts of fraudulent conversion, when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Samuel Booker of 757 ‘C’ Field, Sophia denied the charges.

It is alleged that on May 9 last year in Georgetown, being solely entrusted by Joy Meredith with $100,000 in order that he may purchase raw gold, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

It is also alleged that on the same day last year, being solely entrusted by Joy Meredith with goods valued at $518,925 in order that he would sell the items and return the proceeds to her, he fraudulently converted same to his own use and benefit.

Meredith told the court that after she had given him the money and items she never saw him again until he was arrested.

Booker will return to court on January 28 at Court Five.
