Duo remanded over $15,000 robbery

Two men who allegedly robbed a woman of $15,000 were remanded to prison when they appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Jerry Toussant, 20, and Patrick Watson, 26, both pleaded not guilty to the charge of robbery when it was read to them.

Watson’s cousin, 27-year-old Jumo Singh, was also charged with assault in an attempt to avoid lawful apprehension and he pleaded not guilty.

It is alleged that on June 2 on Regent Street, Toussant and Watson robbed a woman of $15,000 cash. On the same day Singh allegedly assaulted a police officer in an attempt to escape from lawful apprehension.

Singh told the court that on the day in question he was in his yard when he saw the other two men walking by.

He explained that Watson is his cousin and he went outside to speak to him and the police approached them shortly after. Singh said that the police began assaulting him and he tried to defend himself. He was before the court last year for a similar matter.

Toussant and Watson were refused bail because they failed to provide the court with proper addresses and Singh was placed on $25,000 bail.

Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle transferred the matter to Court Four for June 9.
