The lifeless body of a 15-year-old student of the Wisburg Secondary School was late yesterday afternoon discovered in a creek aback of Blue Berry Hill, Linden.
Dead is Kedar Harlequin of 2nd Alley, Wismar.
According to Harlequin’s foster mother Mona, the teen left home on Sunday morning in the company of friends to go to pick Koreo (a fleshy fruit resembling awarra) but never returned. Upon investigations, the boys he had left with said that he went up to Blue Berry Hill to speak with some girls who had called out to him. The boys told Mona that that was the last they saw of Harlequin.
It was later discovered that the lad had indicated to another group of friends that he wanted to go swimming but the friends did not go with him nor could they confirm that he had indeed gone swimming.
Stabroek News was informed that the teen’s parents made a missing person’s report at the Wismar Police Station, late Sunday night.
The following morning his father, Alwin, sent a group of boys from the neighbourhood to search for him at the various creek and they later returned holding a pair of slippers that the team had left home with on Sunday morning.
This newspaper was told that the boys found the slippers in close proximity to the Blue Berry creek.
This discovery prompted, the teen’s father to return to the police station to make another report. However while on his way back home he was informed that his clothing was found in nearby bushes not far from the creek.
A further search unearthed the body in a standing position in the water.
Despite many warnings, to stay out of these creeks which are located in mined out areas throughout Linden, persons especially children continue to flock to them. Over the years there have been several drownings in these creeks. Persons are particularly drawn to them because of their blue-coloured water.
