Electrician facing causing death charge

A 22-year-old electrician was yesterday placed on $400,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

Haydock Bagot of Kuru Kururu, Linden Highway pleaded not guilty when the charge was read to him. It is alleged that on July 23 on the Friendship Public Road, East Bank Demerara, Bagot drove motor van GLL 562 in a manner dangerous to the public thereby causing the death of Joan Dhanbeer.

His lawyer Leslie Sobers told the court that his client was not driving dangerously but rather had lost control of the vehicle he was driving, and  he intends to prove this at his trial.

The prosecution did not object to bail and the man was placed on $400,000 bail. He has to return to the Providence Magistrate’s Court on September 11.
