The PPP must care more for your lives than they do for your vote

Dear Editor,

It is believed, with some justification, that there is collusion between some ranks of the security services and the murderous bandits terrorizing East Coast villages.

Despite this widespread public distrust of the security forces the government still insists to citizens and victims of the bloody attacks that they must trust in these very same folks for their protection.

The government will pay 30 million dollars to anyone with information leading to the arrest of “Fineman” Rawlins and they ask such informants to contact the police. President Jagdeo says all identities will be kept in strictest confidence. Guess what? No one has yet turned up! I’m not surprised.

The public’s continuing demonstration against government’s impotence in dealing with violent and deadly crime is heartening. Now, all villagers and protestors must draft a pledge declaring that they will not vote for the PPP in the coming elections until they are satisfied that the administration really and truly cares about bringing “kick down the door” banditry to an end.

The organisers need to make this a countrywide effort and get as many signatures as possible on to this resolution which should also demand that President Jagdeo hire a trustworthy overseas security force with the sole task of bringing the criminals to justice.

The PPP must care more for your lives than they do your vote.

Yours faithfully,

Justin de Freitas
