The Moseley ban should be lifted

Dear Editor,

I have been paying close attention to the Moseley ban and the forward and backward arguments about the ban. But, what really got to me was some ‘poll’ referred to by Vishnu Bisram (‘Maintaining the ban on Mr Moseley gives the government an un-favourable image,’ July 22) indicating that Mr Moseley habitually makes disparaging and disrespectful remarks about the President. The Stabroek News needs a new pollster and ought to stop using polls produced by Mr Bisram. He claims to have interviewed a number of respected lawyers and doctors. I hasten to guess that they may all have offices on New Garden Street or Robb Street.

I am a regular viewer of Capitol News and have been for the past 11 years or so, and I have found it to be the most credible and objective news organisation in Guyana, so I find it strange that Capitol News and its senior reporter are now being accused of anti-government bias. From what I know, Mr Moseley has been providing regular coverage of presidential press conferences and events for all of his time at Capitol News, and if in 10 years, his only fault is a letter with what Dr Misir and company see as disrespectful remarks, then Mr Moseley must be doing an extraordinary job and should be complimented. I have seen Mr Moseley reporting on President Jagdeo at every major forum that he has attended at home and abroad and I have never seen a negative report. What I did see was a reporter doing his job the way he ought to. But back to this issue of respect. Dr Prem Misir and Mr Kwame McKoy have had a lot to say and write about the ban.

Although their boss insists that he does not have time to waste with Mr Moseley, these two find the time, and a lot of it, to explain, abuse and offer moral advice on the ban.

Get over it you too. I cannot for the life of me believe that Dr Misir and Mr McKoy are now holders of the moral compass. These two gentlemen on their TV shows and in the press routinely abuse anyone who dares to cross their path in the most crass way, and now they want to lecture the Guyanese public on morality. Oh please. Mr Moseley has been doing an excellent job and he ought to be praised for that. The powers that be at the Office of the President ought to find other things to do and lift this stupid ban.

Mr Moseley, keep up the good work.

Yours faithfully,
Simone Chase
