Andrew Lyght outshines Cush, Nagamootoo

Andrew Light, the son of deceased former Guyana middle order batsman, Andrew Light, outshone his more illustrious countrymen Lennox Cush and Mahendra Nagamootoo but his team Sweet Revenge still went under to Central Sports by 42 runs in Chaguanas Central Trinidad, in the fifth round of matches of the Carib Sunday League cricket competition.

Batting first, Central Sports made 177 all out off 46 overs with Cush and Nagamootoo not among the runs. Light then took the bowling by the scruff of the neck but did not receive the support of his team mates and his team subsided to 135 all out. Light was the mainstay of the batting and got an aggressive 65.

Also in good form was Neil McGarrell who took former champions Ceramic Merryboys to a four-wicket victory over a star-studded Alescon Comets outfit. McGarrell grabbed 4/13 to restrict Comets to just 94 all out. He received good support from T&T pacer Richard Kelly 4/30. Lendl Simmons then scored 29, as Merryboys ran home winners at 95/6 with Trinidad and Tobago skipper Rayad Emrit taking 3/30.

Former Guyana pacer Rayon Thomas is also in Trinidad plying his trade and his great opening burst enabled his team British/American Aranguez Sports to rout Old Mac Agro Exchange for just 50 runs. Thomas who generated good pace grabbed 2/15. Aranguez then reached their victory at 51/1.

Elsewhere, former Guyana captain Damodar Daesrath had a rare failure for Rahamut Evergreen but his team still topped Jack Warner’s team Joe Public Invaders Sports.
