Crandon shines as rain curtails play

Esaun Crandon with (4-16) was the shining star on a cloudy night before rain had the final say in the practice game between the Guyana Stanford twenty20 team and a Rest XI at the Banks DIH Thirst Park ground last night.

Being asked to take first strike on a wicket that had some water in it from rain that fell earlier in the day, the Rest XI were 153-10 after 17.4 overs before the clouds opened for the third and final time forcing umpires Andrew Alleyne and Nigel Duguid to pull stumps for the final time of the night.

They got off to a resounding start when their openers Krishna Arjune and Ryan Ramdass back from injury posted 21 runs for the first wicket off the first two overs. But after then, it was a steady procession to and from the wicket despite some valiant hitting by the Rest team batsmen.

Leading the way with the bat for the Rest XI were Krishna Arjune and Sauid Drepaul with 22 each whilst Gajanand Singh offered support with 20.

Crandon received support from Dion Ferrier who ended with 3-45. There was a wicket each for Leon Johnson, Mahendra Nagamootoo and Royston Crandon.

The team will depart these shores tomorrow for Antigua where they will engage Bermuda on Sunday in their first match as they endeavour to retain the title they won in 2006.
