Mentore to head DCC

Georgetown Cricket Associa-tion vice-president Alfred Mentore was on Monday elected president of the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) when the Annual General Meeting (AGM) and election of office bearers was held at the club’s pavilion.

Immediately after his election to steer the executive committee of the club Mentore, who defeated outgoing president Kirk Douglas by a 38-11 margin, highlighted his plans for this year with the major one being the merger between DCC and Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club.

He also outlined his vision for the club which includes the widening and strengthening relationships with residents of the Queenstown community, with a view to bolstering the image of the club as a premier recreational facility in tandem with the area’s corporate entities, organizations and households to forge development.

“We will also endeavour to work along with the players and members on and off the field to aid in their development, both as players and members of the society. In relation to our field initiatives, we plan to create cricketing internships with corporate entities. To this end, we will be approaching non-profit organizations who are willing to support a drive to assist the life skills workshops and training seminars for our young cricketers and members,” Mentore said.

“We will also be ensuring that cricket and its standard remains at the forefront of all our future plans and to this end we will be exploiting the club’s resources, namely the fence fund and legends’ marketability for the earning of revenue purposes.”

Mentore will have as his vice-presidents Deputy Ma-yor of Georgetown Robert Williams and Patrick Harding. Onika Andrews will serve as secretary while the post of treasurer is vacant and will be decided on at a later date.

The post of assistant treasurer is being filled by Andre Legall with Dennis Squires serving as club captain. Jamal Hinckson is the indoor captain and Kevin George the Public Relations Officer (PRO).

There are four committee members: Terry Cadogan, Randy Adams, Orlando Adams and Jermaine Horatio.
