Dolphin scores back-to-back victories

Dolphin Secondary School recorded back-to-back victories over New Campbellville Secondary when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Ministry of Education/National Sports Commission (NSC)/Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) sponsored female Under-19 Inter-Secondary Schools 20-overcricket competition continued recently.

In their first game played on Friday, February 1 at the Ghandi Youth Organization (GYO) ground, they won a nail biter against New Campbellville Secondary. Winning the toss and opting to take first strike, Dolphin must have regretted such a decision when they were bowled out for 67.

Latavia Clarke led the batting with 17 and received support from Andriana Hackett and Joyana Phoenix who made 10 each. Marcia Layne led the route for New Campbellville with 3-10 while Joanna Ramotar (2-10) and Kevi Cozier (2-15) gave support.

In reply, New Campbellville were bowled out for 60 with only Latoya Johnson making 16. Iana Beckles took 3-20 while there were two wickets for Latoya Smith and Christina Henry.

In their second game played on Monday 4 at the GNIC ground, they again defeated New Campbellville but this time by 27 runs.

Choosing to bat first again, they fared better and reached 100-4 from their 20 overs. Once again Hackett was their top scorer with 39 (5x4s) while Sue Ann Henry contributed 24 not out (4x4s). Cozier grabbed 2-8 and Ramotar 1-25.

In reply New Campbellville were bowled out for 73 from 19.2 overs. Phoenix took 3-8 while there were two wickets each for Smith and Beckles.

Tutorial overcame Carmel at GNIC

Tutorial after winning the toss and opting to take first strike were bowled out for 96 from 12 overs. Sharon Browne led the batting with 27 and received support from Marissa Permaul (17) and Nacasey Patterson (15).

Carmel were bowled out for 35 in just 12 overs. Browne (3-8) and Permaul (2-15) did the damage for Tutorial.

Brickdam defeated St Stanislaus at GYO

Batting first, St Stanislaus made 105-6 from 15 overs in a game that was reduced through a late start. Candy Moore top scored with 33 (6x4s) and Kezia Bess made 13 (1×4). Bowling for Brickdam Secondary, Natalie Newsum claimed 3-22 from three overs. In reply, Brickdam reached 106-5 as Chandrowtie Singh made 47 not out and Phelicia Mohammed took two wickets.

At YMCA, Queen’s College defeated Carmel

On Tuesday 5, Queen’s College (QC) defeated Carmel Community High by 40 runs at the YMCA ground.

QC batted first and made 65 from 15.4 overs with Lowana Hardy making 14. Anasha Allicock (3-9), Sue Ann Wilson (2-8) and Letesha Newton (2-20) led the bowling for Carmel.

In reply, QC bowled out their opponents for a meagre 25 runs. Lawana Smartt had the perfect figures of 2-2-0-4 including the first hat trick ever in female school cricket. Ruschelle Matthews offered good support with 2-1-3-4 while Alyssa Xavier took 1-5.

St Stanislaus humbled David Rose CHS

St Stanislaus redeemed themselves on Tuesday 5 when they humbled David Rose Community High in their match that was played at the GNIC ground.

They invited their opponents to take first strike and bowled them out for 39 from 15 overs. Krisann Campbell took 4-16, Abigail Adonis 3-3 and Marise Jordan 2-7 bowling for St Stanislaus who in reply made 40-4 with Candy Moore top scoring with 17.
