Khan/Franklyn, Lowe/John capture doubles titles

Jody Ann Blake and Vida Moore came within a whisker of defeating favourites Trenace Lowe and Michelle John but fell at the final hurdle losing 2-3 in a tense five setter as the national table tennis championships continued yesterday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Blake and Moore led 2-1 after winning the first and third games 11-6, 11-5.

However, the top seeds, who won the second game 11-8, stormed back to claim the title by winning the final two games 11-7, 12-10.

Third place went to Ambrose Thomas and Tiffany Blair who prevailed over Rhonda Farley and Brittany Prescod.

The men’s doubles final was also entertaining with Godfrey Munroe and Paul Meusa leading 2-1 before top seeds Christopher Franklyn and Matthew Khan found their touch to score a come-from-behind win.

Frankly and Khan won 15-13, 9-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-8.

Third place went to Darwin Walcott and Joel Alleyne who defeated Dwayne Dick and Colin France 4-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9.

In the boys’ U-13 final Samuel Fraser defeated Stefan Patoir 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-6 while Dillon Mahadeo defeated Elishaba Johnson for third.

The girls’ U-13 final was won by Chelsea EDghill who defeated Analisa Branche 11-7, 11-6, 6-11, 11-7 with Tiara Naraine getting the better of Anisha Nedd for third place.
