Colin France and Vida Moore captured the mixed doubles title when they defeated Godfrey Munroe/Jody Ann Blake in the final as the national table tennis championships continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports hall on Friday.
And, yesterday the much improved Edinho Lewis survived a bevy of dangerous beauties to capture the `B’ Class event.
In the mixed doubles final the pair of Munroe and Blake never threatened and were routed in straight games 11-6, 11-6, 11-6.
Third place went to the Michelle John/ Christopher Franklyn combination which outlasted the pair of Trenace Lowe/Matthew Khan 8-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-5.
In yesterday’s `B’ Class competition after the wheat was separated from the chaff, Lewis found himself the only male player in the semifinals with John, Blake and Lowe his rivals for the crown.
In the semi-finals Lewis defeated Lowe 11-6, 11-7, 11-6 while John defeated Blake 11-5, 11-4, 11-6.
In the final Lewis triumphed 11-6, 11-5, 5-11, 8-11, 11-6 while Lowe defeated Blake 9-11, 11-3, 11-3, 9-11, 11-7.
In the women’s round robin singles final John, Lowe, Moore and Blake will compete this afternoon from 5pm while the men’s singles final will take place on Wednesday.
The eight players through to the round robin final are Franklyn, Darwin Walcott, who upset Hewley Griffith, Nigel Bryan, who got the better of Joel Alleyne, Munroe, France, Paul Meusa, who beat Dwayne Dick, 11-7, 11-9, 13-11, Lewis and Matthew Khan.
France yesterday won the veterans’ over-35 category from Merton Blake. Michael Vieira was third.
The veteran’s over-55 years category was won by Bruce Murray from Vieira in the round robin final.
