Banks aids in launching Coca Cola Masters football tournament

As they promised earlier this year, Banks DIH has continued to aid in the development of local sport with a recent contribution to the Masters football tournament which will begin in the next two weeks at the Thirst Park ground.

The company sponsors this tournament under its Coca Cola brand and according to reports, will be injecting more than $500,000 to offset all costs of staging the event.

Communications manager of the company, Troy Peters, said that Banks DIH Ltd was pleased to be associated with the tournament which would give some of the more experienced players a chance to perform at a high level. This is expected to entertain the fans and prove beneficial and inspiring to young players.

“Not often do we see the stars of yesteryear perform and football lovers and fans will have an opportunity to see these stars and I am certain that they still have the skills to challenge any of the nation’s top players,” he said.

Peters also commented on the appropriateness of all the tournament matches being played at the Thirst Park ground, which he said was very convenient for the players in the masters tournament because its size would not tire out the veterans.

The communications manager also mentioned that his company intends to continue playing a critical role for the sportsmen and women of all ages in Guyana.

Organizer of the tournament, Gordon Braithwaite, said that he is very grateful for Banks DIH coming on stream to give their tournament much needed assistance from the corporate sector.

“A company like Banks DIH sponsoring this tournament will make it much more interesting and exciting since we are now able to provide prize money incentives as well as trophies and gear for winners which could not have been otherwise accomplished,” he said.

According to Braithwaite, the tournament would include veteran teams such as Pele, Santos, Thomas United and GFC, all vying for the first prize of $200,000.

There will also be trophies and football shoes awarded to outstanding performers, including most goal scorer and best goal keeper of the tournament.
