Bryden’s 2nd Division League

Ravens’ guard Kevin Lawrence led all scorers with a 19-point performance as Ravens beat Eagles 63-60 on Saturday where the Georgetown Amateur Basket-ball Association (GABA) Bryden’s second division league continued at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

Ravens starting five which consisted of most of their third division players began the game which was the second game on the night’s card and the Eagles players quickly took advantage of the ploy scoring the first five points of the game. However, Devon Bacchus, who ended the game with 18 points, helped Ravens recover from the slow start while Lawrence provided the constant offensive weapon for the Ravens in the absence of utility player Ryan Gullen.

He received assistance when point-guard Ryan Stephney checked into the game as Stephney attracted much of the attention of the Eagles defenders.

Stephany penetrated the field on many occasions before dishing the ball out to the open Lawrence on the perimeter who ignited to cash in on three three-pointers.

Lawrence guided many of his shots gracefully through the bottom of the nylon net despite being tightly guarded by Eagles’ guard Quacy Lindo.

The Eagles players who had found answers for the Ravens throughout the first half and only trailed 30-32 at halftime, remained stationery at 38 while the Ravens scored 14 points at the other end.

Trailing by 16 points with 7:50s remaining in the game, the Eagles started to soar again, and slowly rose close to the altitude of the high-flying Ravens.

Lindo, who finished with 10 points for the Eagles, scored five points during the last minute of the game as Eagles’ came within three points of victory.

Adrian Hooper led the Eagles’ scoring with 19 points while Linden Smith added 13 points.

In the first game of the evening, referees, coaches and past players making up the Georgetown Masters’ team enjoyed their first win of the league when they had their way with the Beepat Scorpions 71-76.

The Masters led by as much as 16 points in the second half but the Scorpions managed to close the deficit after desperately finding a rhythm late in the game after a poor shooting first half.

The Masters were led by basketball referee and ex-Ravens player Aubrey ‘Jakie’ Young who added 16 points while Dane Kendall and Lugard Mohan added 14 points each.

Scorpions were led by Sheldon Braithwaite and Jaime Mayers who each scored 14 points.

In the final game of the evening the Nets gained a walkover from the Legends.
