Holder continues dominance

Christopher Holder continued his dominance on the local cycling scene when he outrode his more illustrious opponents to win the feature event of the 15th Annual R&R International Schoolboys and Novices’ cycle meet at the Inner circuit of the National Park on Saturday.

Holder who had earlier dominated and won the 10-lap juvenile event from Neil Reece and Michael Nelson who finished in that order, in a meet organised by national cycling coach Hassan Mohammed, completed the 35-lap event in a time of 1:27:05:40 as he out sprinted his club mate Darren Allen in a burst to the finish line.

Kamaludeen Baksh, Tyrone Conway, Linden Blackman and Travis Cipriani completed the top six finishers’ list in the feature event that saw the top two finishers, Holder (3) and Allen (5), confirming their domination by taking all the sprint prizes that were up for grabs during the event.

Earlier, 14 year old Reece who hails from the Ancient County of Berbice had won the 12-14 three-lap event from Jason Pollydore, the younger brother of former Guyana and Caribbean cycling star Godfrey Pollydore and Naomi Singh in that order.

Linden Blackman won the veteran under-45 category event, whilst Anthony Fariah took the over -45 category. Kester Croal won the Upright cyclist five-lap event from Dexter Wilson and Richard Charles respectively.

The BMX 6-9 category was won by Raymond Perez from Dinesh Raghubeer and Hemant Kumar in that order, whilst the 9-12 category was taken by Orlando King from Compton Watts and Elford Denhart respectively.

Quincy Evans was the dominant cyclist in the 12-14 BMX category over Russell Humphrey and Brandon Baker, whilst Kevin Edwards took the Open division from Romel Bhagwandin and Anthony Freeman in that order.

Geron Williams assisted with the presentation of prizes on behalf of the sponsors R&R International Limited. The cyclists will return to the same venue on Saturday when they will compete in the Demerara Distillers Limited Diamond Mineral Water sponsored programme.
