Holder holds onto his title

Christopher Holder outsprinted John Charles of Linden to win the feature event of the sixth annual Diamond Mineral Water cycle programme organized by national cycle coach Hassan Mohammed and held at the inner circuit of the National Park on Saturday.

Holder, who won the same event last year in a time of one hour, 30 minutes and 37.05 seconds, finished in a time of one hour, 30 minutes, 21.96 seconds to retain his title. Holder and Charles managed to get away from the group and waged a fierce battle until the end.

Darren Allen kept up for several laps but was dropped with about 13 laps to go for the finish as the pace of Holder and Charles proved too hot for the competition.

Holder suffered a puncture in the 28th lap which forced him to change cycles but by the next lap he was back on his original cycle as Charles made no effort to put any distance between himself and the defending champion.

Allen grabbed third place while Enzo Matthews, Tyrone Conway and Jaikarran Sookhai occupied the next three places.

Ashley Anthony was the lone competitor in the BMX Girls 6 – 12-years-old event while Dexter Wilson won the Upright event from Andre Petty and Joel Jafferally in that order.

Raymond Perry won the BMX boys’ 6 – 9-years-old event from Dineshwar Raghubeer and Dominic Helwig respectively while the BMX boys’ 9 – 12-years-old race was won by Orlando King from Anthony Freeman and Compton Watts.

Neil Reece won the BMX boys’ 12-14-years-old event from Jason Pollydore and Brandon Baker while Linden Blackman won the veterans-U-50-years-old event from Virgil Jones and Kennard Lovell.

Aubrey Gravesande and Anthony Fariah were first and second respectively in the veterans’ 50-years-and-over event.
