Alpha rushes into the semis on Browne’s hat trick -Mayor’s Cup

A hat trick of goals from Elton Browne, helped Alpha United rush into the semi-finals of the annual Mayor’s Cup football tournament following a 5-0 drubbing of Mocha Champs in a quarter-final fixture Friday evening at the Tucville ground.
In the opening encounter of a Georgetown/East Bank affair, Alpha United, who won the Georgetown Football Association’s (GFA) Premier League competition and also the Kashif and Shanghai tournament, wasted little time in establishing their dominance.
National midfielder Shawn `Fatso’Bishop netted the opening goal after 17 minutes while Browne added a double strike with a minute scoring in the 22nd and 23rd minutes of the game.
Peter Parks then parked one in the back of the net in the 32nd minute as Alpha took a 4-0 lead at halftime.
Upon resumption, Browne completed his hat trick in the 72nd minute but six minutes later the victors were reduced to 10 following the ejection of Kelvin Smith by referee Mark Younge for abusive language.
In the second game Sunburst Camptown edged the Guyana Defence Force 6-5 on penalty kicks after a goalless draw.
A total of 110 minutes from regulation and extra time failed to break the deadlock as both teams squandered a number of opportunities.
To compound matters, a first set of penalty kicks also ended in a tie with both sides scoring five goals which led to a ~Sudden Death’ penalty shootout which Sunburst Camptown won after the army player missed his spot kick.
The remaining two semi-final spots will be decided today when Fruta Conquerors oppose Western Tigers from 8pm in an all Georgetown affair while in the second game Uprising will oppose Bakewell Buxton Stars.
