The Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) will resume its Bryden’s second division league this evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall where the last six games of the first round are set to be completed.

There was a one week break in the competition because the venue was being used for the staging of the 13th annual Caribbean Junior, Cadet Table Tennis Championships which ended on Monday.
GABA’s President Chris Bowman, said that the six games that would be played this weekend would bring the first round of the competition to a close and eight out of the 13 teams which started the competition, will progress to the much anticipated second round.

Much is at stake in this weekend’s matches, which coincides with the start of the USA, NBA playoffs this Saturday.

Many teams are on the brink of elimination and some teams will be in action tonight as well as tomorrow night.

Tonight, Panthers will take on Eagles in game one, followed by a duel of teams with winning records as the high-powered Dyna’s Ravens offence go against the stifling defence of the Pepsi Sonics.

Ravens have used their explosive fast-break game to gain early the advantage against teams who have instituted the zone defence.

However, Pepsi Sonics have been known to resort to their whole court press to fatigue their opponents early before they take advantage on the offensive end.

While the Ravens/ Sonics matchup promises to heat up the evening, Bounty Colts versus Junior Elite will be the climaxing game of the night on the hardwood.

Tomorrow, Eagles will face Bounty Colts in the first game of the evening.

After having a relatively dormant first round, Eagles will have a chance to make a last minute push for one of the eight spots when they play back-to-back nights.

In the second game, the dominant Nets will be looking to stop Lugard Mohan and Kelvin Simon who have led the way for the Georgetown Masters for most of the first round.

Then in the final game of the first round the Junior Elites will take the floor against the Dyna’s Ravens, in a heated game between the two team as the Junior Elites have current and past Ravens’ player in their roster.
