Gladwin Dorway of the Pocket Rocket Boxing Gym (PRBG) of East Canje, Berbice, used tremendous power to clean up Republican Zackery Montinque on the second night of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Associat-ion’s National Intermediate Championships at the Nation-al Gymnasium on Saturday night.
Montique, who won his previous bout on the first night, had no answer to Dorway’s clean, precise hitting which led to his demise as the referee stopped the contest in the second round of the scheduled four-rounder.
The night’s card had 15 scheduled fights which included four finals.

In the under-15 division, Marlon Teixeira defeated Junior Young in the 70–74lbs category while Aaron De Younge thrashed Isaiah Lall in the 80-84lbs category.

In the bantamweight category, Randel Singh won over Denzel Archer while Trevor George was victorious over Leonard Benjamin in the cadet featherweight category.

Three other under-15 match-ups were contested with Rondel Rowley thrashing his Ricola gym-mate Anthony Persaud in the 60-64lbs division; Paul Williams defeating Harpy Eagles team-mate Shameer Naraine in the 55-59 lbs category and Akeem Daniels also of Harpy Eagles winning his 65-69lbs bout against Jamal Williamson (PRBG).

Essequibo’s Glenroy Smith won against Roman Pollard of Young Achievers in the other cadet encounter in a featherweight bout.

Forgotten Youth Foundation boxer Orlando Allicock, who is one of the six boxers selected to attend the Junior Commonwealth Games in India, defeated  club-mate Dexter Jordan in the flyweight category.

Republican Gym’s Anthony Feroze was not successful in his fight against Asahel Williams of FYF in the other flyweight bout while the referee stopped the contest in the lightweight category as Robert Nichols’ (Republican) punches proved too much for club-mate Jermaine Pompey.

In the featherweight category Charles Albert (Ricola) defeated Jermaine Pompey (Rep) over eight action-packed minutes while Guyana Defence Force’s Jermaine Williams won the first of two light welterweight matches after he defeated Damion Ross (Rep) before Hudley Khan (Rep) defeated his gym-mate Trevor Wilson.

Meanwhile, the GABA said it would like to thank Director of Sport, Neil Kumar, for granting them permission to occupy the sleeping facilities at the National Gymnasium to house the out-of-town participants during the tournament and manager of the facility Bashir Khan for his assistance to the GABA.

The organization said it also wished to bring to the public’s attention the fact that their raffle has been postponed to August 31.
