Jamaal ShabazzThe Guyana national football team will play a friendly match against the Trinidad and Tobago Soca Warriors today at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva from 4.00pm, a press release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) said yesterday.

The practice game was agreed to by GFF Technical Director Jamaal Shabazz and Trinidad and Tobago Columbia-born Coach Francisco Maturana who, according to the release was very impressed with the Guyanese talent playing in T&T.

T&T played England, last Sunday and are using this match to prepare for their friendly international versus Jamaica on Saturday.

Technical Director for Guyana’s football Jamaal Shabazz expressed happiness with the decision.
“A game like this is just what the football doctor would order for World Cup preparations. It will test the work that we have put in during the last week and give us an indication of our current areas of strengths and weaknesses at the moment.
“The players are putting in a lot of work and, despite the fact that everything is not in place, they are totally committed to the task,” he added.

Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson was the last player to join the camp after securing his release from Joe Public over the weekend. “Chan”, as he is called, was granted a reprieve by the GFF after he and Codrington were sidelined for several months for breaking team curfew.

“Codrington and Chan are like my sons, we are satisfied that they have seen the error of their ways. They are two boys I love the most so I will be hardest in dealing with them.

“They are working as hard as everyone else and very focused for the job at hand,” added Shabazz.
The Golden Jaguars are expected to play two more matches against T&T Pro league clubs on Friday and Sunday.
