Topp XX and Milerock register wins

Topp XX and Milerock Football Clubs recorded victories over their opponents when action in the Banks DIH Coca Cola-sponsored Upper Demerara Football Association (UDFA) first-division competition continued at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground Wednesday.

In the first game of the double header, Milerock defeated Blue Berry Hill United by a 2-1 margin whilst Topp XX had a similar result over Winners Connections.
For Milerock, R. Wills opened the scoring in the 10th minute which helped his team  to a 1-0 lead at half-time.

D. Reid then made it 2-0 when he found the back of the net in the 70th minute.
Although R. Fraser pulled one back for Blue Berry Hill in the 82nd minute, the goal could not prevent his team from being on the losing side.

In the feature game, leading goal scorer Curth Murphy increased his tally in injury time after K. Cameron had levelled the game for Topp XX who trailed Winners Connections 0-1 from as early as the 28th minute of the match.

They had to fight hard to get back in the game and just when Winners Connections looked set to come away with a win that would have propelled them into second place, some defensive blunders enabled Topp XX to score two goals in three minutes and pull off a come from behind victory.

Meanwhile, the organizers have decided to replay the five matches that were affected by the weather earlier, commencing today with a double header at the MSC ground from 1800hrs (6:00pm).

In the first game, Amelia’s Ward United will face Eagles whilst points leaders Silver Shattas will be looking to further increase their lead at the top when they face bottom of the table Netrockers.

The action will continue on Sunday with Netrockers facing Winners Connections and Amelia’s Ward taking on Milerock.

Next Wednesday’s action will pit Silver Shattas and Blue Berry Hill  from 1800hrs against Topp XX taking on Eagles from 2000hrs.

The action will continue next Friday with Amelia’s Ward United against Netrockers and Milerock taking on Winners Connections.
