At a simple ceremony held at the Area ‘H’ Office of the club, eight clubs including Tucker Park Cricket Club, Mental Hospital Sports Club, Rose Hall Canje Community Centre and Chesney Cricket Club along with Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary, Port Mourant New Junior High, Lower Corentyne Secondary and Canje Secondary Schools respectively benefited from the sports gear which included chess and dominoes sets, table tennis racquets and balls, volleyballs, basketballs and cricket balls.

Each school and club received 12 hygiene kits worth $6,000.00 each that will be given to 12 under-15 players identified by the clubs.

Secretary of RHTYSC Hilbert Foster stated that the presentation was a joint programme between RHTYSC and its main donor The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints on which he showered praise for their continued support towards the club over the years.

“The main aim of this programme is to encourage youths to get involved in sports , to stay away from drugs, crime and other social ills, whilst at the same time encouraging them to stay in school and acquire an education which is a key to their upbringing in life and a successful future.”

Foster further stated:”I want to say thanks to the Church for their continued support to the club and its programmes over the years. Our aim is to make a difference in the lives of youths and the less fortunate and the assistance received from the church thus far has helped made this possible.”

Speaking on behalf of the church, Sister Bullock who called on the clubs and schools to make full use of the items stated that one of her church’s main missions is to serve others.

“We at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has a mission to serve others and with the work being carried out by RHTYSC that has a rich tradition of success, we are more than happy to be associated with them in their endeavours and encourage them to continue their good work in offering opportunities to the less fortunate youths via sports and educational items they offered.

“I want to encourage the schools and clubs who are the beneficiaries here today and even those who have benefited from the club before to make good use of the items they will be receiving,” Sister Bullock stated.
