Melissa Humphrey wins GT&T Medal Play golf

Experienced female golfer Melissa Humphrey won last Saturday’s Guyana Tele-phone and Telegraph (GT&T) sponsored pre-Father’s Day Medal Play golf tournament and in the process ruined the efforts of several anxious fathers who were eager to win the title in observance of Father’s Day which was celebrated yesterday.

Humphrey (36 handicap), one of only two female players in a line up of 29 golfers who participated in the tournament, recorded a gross 104 to end with a net 68 on her way to victory under perfect conditions at the Lusignan Golf Course.

Khan however won the Nearest to the Pin prize.

Ronald Bulkhan, Secretary of the Lusignan Golf Club (LGC) thanked GT&T for sponsoring the tournament.

Bulkhan said that it is sponsors like GT&T that play a significant role in ensuring that golf is kept alive locally.

He said that the Club is pushing to increase its membership through a Beginners Training programme that is set to start next month and he called on all interested persons to register.

GT&T’s Sales and Marketing representative Mary Evelyn, who spoke on behalf of the local telecommunications giant said her company was pleased to sponsor the tournament in observance of Father’s Day. She also paid tribute to Humphrey for winning the event.

Deslyn Morris, Sales and Marketing supervisor presented the sponsor’s cheque and several folded chairs to the Club, while the top performers were presented with trophies and chairs.
