Hing tops handgun field

Smallbore captain Dale Hing came out on top in last weekend’s Safeway Security sponsored .22 pistol shoot competition organized by the Handgun Section of the Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) at the TSU range, Eve Leary.

Hing had an overall score of 476 points and nine bulls beating into second position Aundrea Cambridge who recorded 467 points with four bulls while, junior shooter  Oudit Seenarine upstaged his senior counterparts to place third with 457 points and  three bulls.

Dale HingThe fourth position went to Murtland Smith with 450 points and two bulls while Gordon Richards was fifth with 444 points and six bulls.

The competition attracted 17 shooters including junior and seniors and the course consisted of shooting two strings of 10 yards each at two precision targets at the 10 and 15-metre distances then a final string of 10 yards at the 20-metre distance.

The total points for all three stages were tabulated for the overall placements.

Cambridge led after the 10m stage with 199 points and  three bulls followed by Hing in second position with 194 points and  five bulls and Gordon Richards, third with193 points and two bulls.

The 15m-metre stage saw Cambridge dropping valuable points allowing Hing using his vast experience to capitalise.

Hing claimed the first position at that stage with 191 points and four bulls followed by Peter Persaud with 189 points and Smith with 187 points and one bull.

In the final stage at the 20m distance, junior marksman David Dharry beat the field for first position with 93 points followed Seenarine in second with 92 points and Hing third with 91 points.

During the presentation of trophies Cambridge was also presented with the Sharpshooter badge for being the first person to complete the marksman qualification programme at five, 10, 15, 20 and 25-metre distances with both .22 and 99 pistols.
