Following its donation of cricket gear to clubs around Georgetown earlier this year, Food for the Poor Guyana Incorporated yesterday made another sizable donation this time totalling G$2.9M worth of cricket gear to clubs around the capital city and on the East Bank of Demerara.
The items that were presented to the various clubs included bats, balls, batting and wicket-keeping pads as well as gloves, helmets and wickets.
Chairman of the organization Paul Chan-A-Sue said at the official presentation ceremony yesterday at Food for the Poor Festival City location, that the organization has recognized the need for cricket gear on the East Bank of Demerara and that his organization had seen it fit to meet their needs.
He added that the list of clubs benefiting from the donations include a few new teams from around Georgetown who did not benefit from the first donation.
Chan-A-Sue explained the motive behind his organization’s donation was:“To ensure that all of the youngsters who received this gear are encouraged and we hope that this will help spread the sport and aid in its development throughout the country.”
Before the official presentation of the gear was done, representatives from all the clubs who were present expressed their appreciation and commented on how grateful they were.
Club Captain of the Transport and General Sports Club said: “Our club would like to sincerely thank the Board of Directors here at Food for the Poor for donating this gear to us which couldn’t have come at a better time as this will be our first year with an under 15 team and we know that the gear will benefit the youths.”
Jennifer Pile, Coach of the Ace Warriors Cricket Club in East Ruimveldt said: “We would like to thank Food for the Poor here today because we are a small club and the donation will be a great help as we try to develop our club.”
Gregory Da Silva, President of the Providence Sports Club said: “We are very thankful and excited to receive the gear and we would also like to give you our assurance that we will utilize and take care of each piece.”
“The gear will also be very helpful to our youngsters who have had to use the senior players’ gear which was always too big and uncomfortable.”
