BCBC calls 32 for CLICO U-17 trials

A two-day trial match to be played next Tuesday and Wednesday will decide the composition of the Berbice Under-17 squad that will do battle with Demerara and Essequibo in the CLICO Under-17 Inter- County Championships slated to commence on September 6.

Late Friday evening, a provisional 32-member squad that includes former national Under-15 batsman Harrinarine Chattergoon, Joemal La Fleur, Dominique Ricky and national Under-19 fast  bowler Keon Joseph was announced by the junior selection panel of the Berbice Cricket Board of Control (BCBC).

The two-day trial match will be played at the Blairmont Community Centre ground in West Berbice and on hand to observe the players will be the Junior Selection Committee of the BCBC:

The squad was selected following the conclusion of the Leslie Amsterdam Memorial Under-17 Inter-Zone cricket competition which was played on a zone basis consisting of teams from New Amsterdam/Canje and West Berbice in Zone A and Upper, Lower and Central Corentyne in Zone B.

In the last round of matches played, Lower Corentyne were crowned champions of their group after they defeated Central Corentyne.
Central took first strike and were bowled out for 83 with Ganesh Jallim top scoring with 27.

Videsh Lall offered support with 19 while Gudakesh Motie with 3-24, pacer Hugh George taking 2-6 and Yogeshwar Deonarine 2-26 led the bowling rout for Lower Corentyne.

A splendid 69 studded with seven boundaries from Harrinarine Chattergoon (the younger brother of West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon) and R. Naidoo who offered support with 31, carried Lower Corentyne to 142-4 declared.

Fast bowler J. Jerrick caught the attention of the selectors when he took 2-28. And facing a deficit of 59 runs, Central batting a second time reached 67-4 when stumps were drawn with Bisham Persaudie being the lone batsman to offer resistance to the bowling of Y. Deonarine who took 3-5 bowling for Lower Corentyne with an unbeaten 27.
