Sunich, Mohammed guide Floodlights XI to victory over Mount Everest

A workmanlike unbeaten innings of 73 from Ramesh Sunich along with valuable support from former national wicketkeeper/batsman Sheik Mohammed who made 71, guided Floodlights XI to 192-8 and subsequently a four-run victory over Mount Everest Lodge in a 25 overs-a-side softball game on Sunday.

Winning the toss and opting to take first strike in a match which was sponsored by Saravin Sawmill of Parika, Floodlights XI were indebted to both Mohammed and Sunich who featured in a partnership that was worth more than 100 runs as Anand Chan took 3-34 for Mount Everest Lodge.

The match was played at the YMCA ground and was organized to raise funds for Mount Everest Lodge.

In reply, they were bowled out for 188 off the second ball of the final over, handing Floodlights XI a four-run victory. Fidel Singh led the batting with 70, while Shane Seebarran offered support with 29 against the bowling of Rohan Bhoojraj (3-17) and G. Arjune 2-18 bowling for Floodlights XI.

For Floodlights XI, Sunich was voted the Man-of-the-Match while the other outstanding players were Mohammed (Best Batsman), Bhoojraj (Best Bowler), Derrick Ramoutar (Best Fielder) and Kameel Khan (Best Catch) and for Mount Everest Lodge, there were Singh (Best Batsman), Chan (Best Bowler), Saykhar Boodhoo (Best Fielder) and Oliver Insanally (Best Catch). They  all received individual prizes.
