Chattergoon guides Albion to victory

Guyana and West Indies opener Sewnarine Chattergoon turned in an all-round performance to guide Albion Community Centre to a four-wicket victory over Scottsburg United when the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) nation-wide Neal and Massy cricket tournament continued over the week-end in Berbice.
Asked to take first strike in a game which was reduced to 30 overs–a-side due to overnight rain, Scottsburg reached 138-8 at the end of their allotted overs as national right arm leg spinner Devendra Bishoo bagged 4-16 whilst Chattergoon chipped in with 2-8.

Peter Grimes tried to hold Scottsburg’s innings together. He made 38 and, along with Eon Amsterdam (33) and Shaun Jackman 21 was mainly responsible for the team’s eventual total.

Chattergoon, playing in his first game since his return form the West Indies tour of Canada, returned with the bat to score an attractive 63 that was decorated with three fours and two sixes and, along with an unbeaten 43 from Ranga Lachigadoo, saw their team to 150-6 with three balls to spare. Off spinner James Hart took 2-17 for Scottsburg United.

In other results, Port Mourant defeated neighbours Rose Hall Town Windies Sports Bar (RHTWSB) by five wickets at the Area ‘H’ ground.

Asked to take first strike, RHTWSB reached 150-8 from their 40 overs with Jason Sinclair making an unbeaten 55 (3×4; 1×6).

Former national middle order batsman Homchand Pooran took 2-15 for Port Mourant.

In reply, former Berbice under-19 captain Rajiv Ivan blasted nine fours and one six in an unbeaten 64 and, along with Pooran’s 24, steered Port Mourant to 151-5 with six overs to spare.

Terrence Madramootoo took 2-15 for RHTWSB.

At Blairmont Community Centre ground, Bermine defeated West Berbice by nine runs in a closely fought encounter.

Bermine won the toss and scored 157-9 from their 40 overs with Maxie de Jonge leading the way with 55 which was decorated with seven fours.

Off spinner Kenje Sedoc with 2-25 and medium pacer Asif Khan 2-28 were the principal bowlers for West Berbice.

In reply, West Berbice tried desperately to get to their target, but were bowled out nine runs short in the final over with Artley Bailey (24) being the principal scorer.

National under-19 off spinner Stephen Latcha took 2-22.

In the final game played at the Bush Lot Farm ground, Charles France slammed 71 which included five fours and one six which steered Skeldon Community Centre to 164 all out from 29.3 in their game against Kildonan which was also reduced to 30 overs due to overnight and early morning rain.

Medium pacer Farouk Drepaul grabbed 4-27 for Kildonan who were then bowled out for 113 from 26 overs, due mainly to the efforts of national under-15 player Clinton Pestano who took 4-30 and fast bowler Jermaine Reid who grabbed 2-1.
