Ruimzight, Windsor Forest and La Jalousie Estate pull off close wins

Windsor Forest ground saw three nail-biting matches that all ended in tight situations as Ruimzight, Windsor Forest Sports Club and La Jalousie Estate gained victories in their encounters last weekend at the Guyana Softball League (GSL) organized Memorex Enterprise 15-over softball tournament.

Ruimzight, Windsor Forest and La Jalousie held their nerves to defeat Cornelia Ida Invaders, Skyline and Boom Blast respectively in the West Coast Demerara leg of the tourney.

In a match where Ruimzight took first strike and got up to a total of 149-9 in 15 overs, Mohanram Chaitram and Dave Singh who made 46 and 21 respectively were the prime contributors in the innings while Vickash Dhanira and Mohammed Omar bagged 3-19 and 2-21 correspondingly for Cornelia Ida.

Cornelia Ida reached 134-9 at the conclusion of their allotted 15 overs with Samuel Richardson belting 39 and Michael Persaud supported with 16 against the attack of Anand Bharat and Lakeram Rampersaud who claimed 3-23 and 3-25 for Ruimzight respectively.

In the other close call at the Windsor Forest ground the home team Windsor Forest Sports Club defeated Skyline XI by 8 runs. Windsor Forest Sports Club batted and scored 117 in 12 overs despite a terrific half century from Mukesh Balgobin who made 58 while Elroy Azeez took 4-15 for Skyline.

Skyline XI could only muster 109 in 15 overs in their reply where Anil Totolall top scored with 23 while Rohan Harrinarine claimed 3-25.

La Jalousie Estate XI defeated Boom Blast XI in a thrilling encounter by 3 wickets when the match was decided by the last ball. Boom Blast won the toss, batted first and got up to a challenging 157-7 in 15 overs as Ramotar Ramroop top scored with 44 while Avenash Sirpaul supported with 24.

Moheen Mohamedeen grabbed 3-25 for La Jalousie before their reply when they reached 158-7 in 15 overs after being led by a superb half century from Gobin Hansraj who made 51 even as Shabudeen Kalamadeen took 3-14 for Boom Blast.

Over at the Den Amstel ground Rangers Sports Club arrested Den Amstel Sports Club in a five-wicket victory as the home team batted first and was led by Graham Miggins who made an unbeaten 31. They got up to 133 in 14.5 overs.

Diaram Persaud blasted a brilliant 50 to lead Rangers in their reply and they surpassed the target for victory and lost five wickets in the process.

Avenash XI, made up of under-15 players, upset Stewartville XI by 5 wickets. Stewartville crumbled to 113 in 14.3 overs as they could not contend with the bowling of Carlos Ishree who grabbed 4-20.

Avenash XI knocked off the required runs in 13.2 overs and lost five wickets in the process as Alvin Persaud led the way with 43 and Raul Persaud helped with 33.

Hyde Park XI then gained a walkover from Leonora Youths after they failed to show up for their 2pm encounter.

At Providence ground Young Warriors Sports Club got the better of Feroz XI by 8 wickets then gained a walkover from Grantville in the second scheduled encounter.

Feroz XI batted first and scored 96 12.1 overs, Christian Roopnarine made 21 while Safraz Esau tore through the batting lineup with 5-20. Young Warriors then cruised to 98-2 in 9 overs as Esau led the way with a solitary 56.
