Heated action expected in ECDFSA Mackeson Stoute League

Football fans on the East Coast and possibly Georgetown can brace themselves for some breath-taking football action tomorrow evening as East Coast Demerara power-houses Victoria Kings and Bakewell Buxton Stars collide from 18:00 hrs while Plaisance United will battle with Buxton United at 20:00hrs at the Plaisance Community Centre ground.

The battle for supremacy starts when former East Coast Demerara, Mayor’s Cup and Kashif and Shanghai champions, Victoria Kings, tackle a determined and tough-looking Bakewell Buxton Stars.

Most football pundits feel that this match-up will be the game of the tournament whilst some have argued that this should have also been the feature game of the evening because of the level of football that these two teams play.

Buxton is expected to come hard at the Kings who have regained some form after last week-end’s tour to Rose Hall where they scored eight goals in three matches and will be led by experienced skipper Andrew Holder who is expected to receive support from the in-form Ron Collins, Calvin “Balac” De Souza and Donald Lutchman.

The defence will be marshalled by Shawn Samuels and he will receive support from Samuel Blackette, Kojo Huntley, Mortimer Murphy and Trevor Fraser while Andrew Williams will do duties between the uprights.

Bakewell Buxton Stars on the other hand, will seek to make amends after they were held to a draw 1-1 by Golden Stars in their first match and will be coming to prove that they are still good enough to be the kings of football on the East Coast.

They will be led by the dangerous and in-form Rashlie Morrison, Ruben Morris, Sherwin “Styley” Griffith and the diminutive Pierre Joseph with the tried and trusted Keon Adams controlling the defence.

In the other match-up debutants Buxton United will try to ensure that their good record in the competition is maintained and to this effect they will be fielding a youthful line-up with an average age of 18 years.

They have already proven that they are dangerous when they thrashed Black Stallion 6-1 in the first round and Plaisance will have lots of work to do in order to contain this team, which seem to have a very good fitness level and love springing surprises on their more illustrious opponents.

Plaisance will seek to prove that they are not to be taken lightly despite going down to Ann’s Grove two nil in their opening match.

Meanwhile, results from last Sunday’s games showed 2007 champions BV/Triumph United being held to 1-1 draw by Golden Stars who also held Bakewell Buxton Stars 1-1 in the first round, on their home ground in BV.

Mahaica Determinators, who are in the penultimate position at the moment, also salvaged some pride when they held Buxton United to a one all draw also at BV.
