All roads lead to Rising Sun for Annual Agriculture Month Rodeo

“It will be a day full of fun and vaqueros from throughout the country will be on show,”  said Inshan Habibula, president of the Rising Sun Rodeo Committee.
Speaking to Stabroek Sport Habibula said that the now annual event will be held on October 26. Action will start at 11:00 hours and included for the day are ten events.
The events are steer roping, bare back bronco, male and female barrel race, wild cow milking, calf roping, wild bull riding, and saddle bronco.

Habibula added that vaqueros (cow boys) will be coming from as far as Brazil to match  skills with their Guyanese competiters. The cost of bringing the vaqueros is high, according to Habibula, but  they will foot the bill to have the “best” vaqueros on show.

He said too  that over $1M will be up for grabs in the one-day event. A large chunk of the money will be used to offset the expenses of the vaqueros as the Rodeo Committee will be footing all the costs, including meals, hotel bills, etc.

This event has now become a regular feature on the Rising Sun calendar and is held as part of West Berbice Agriculture Month activities.
