Guyanese trio triumphant in Trinidad and Tobago

The combination of Sensei Troy Bobb, Instructor Tyrone Niles and Allende Barker graced the Chauguanas Regional Sporting Complex in Trinidad and Tobago (T&T) when they competed in the Pan Caribbean International Martial Arts Championships this past weekend.

Bobb, Niles and Barker competed in the Kata and Weapon disciplines of the tournament which also had numerous other disciplines such as self defence,  open form, open team etc.

Speaking to Stabroek Sport yesterday the trio said they would have liked to compete in the team discipline but could not because the Guyanese contingent was too small.
Niles and Bobb competed in the 18 – 34 years age group where Bobb won gold in the Kata and Weapon disciplines while Niles settled for silver in both disciplines.
Barker competed in the 11-13 years age group Kata and Weapon discipline where he claimed second and third respectively.

This was Niles and Barker’s first participation at the competition and Bobb’s fifth.

The athletes were quite confident going into the competition where participants from numerous countries from North, South and Central America participated and told Stabroek Sport that they are satisfied with their overall performance.

Bobb disclosed that he would be working towards carrying a larger team to participate in next year’s competition.

He extended his gratitude to Apex Academy, The Hon. Prime Minister Samuel Hinds, Caribbean Airlines and Director of Sport Neil Kumar for making their participation in the championship possible.

Bobb will return to the United States of America where he will prepare to contend in two World Tour-naments next year.
On November 2, Bobb’s club will attend the third annual Little Diamond Martial Arts Academy at the Enmore Community Centre.
