Competition heats up in New Line Aqua Farm 20/20

– Cultural Cricket Club and Malverns take early lead
Cultural Cricket Club (CCC) of West Bank Demerara and Zeeburg of West Coast Demerara are point leaders in Zone A while Malvern are on top of Zone B after one week of play in the West Demerara Cricket Association (WDCA)/New Line Aqua Farm Second Division Twenty/20 competition.

In games played over the weekend in Zone A CCC took on Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) West at CCC ground. The home team took first strike and rattled up a sizeable 162-8 off their 20 alloted overs. CCC was indebted to top scorer Ameer Aziz for his stroke filled 33.
MMZ West in reply put up a good chase but going for quick runs lost wickets at regular intervals and were all out for 152. Bowling for the CCC Demerara first division bowler Chien Gittens returned figures of 4-24-2.

In games played in Zone B Malverns took on Independence B at La Grange Cricket Ground and Independence B, thanks to Almando Damon with 42, were all out by the last ball for 179. Malverns rattled off the target thanks to Vishaul Balram who made a spanking 67 NO to lead his team to a five wickets win. Bowling for the losers Damon returned a good all round performance bowling 4-30-3 but it was all in vain.

In another game played Independence B was again on the receiving end as Western United batted first at the La Grange Cricket Ground and made 132-7 with Omesh Goorcharran making a solid 55 and Krishna Maniram 32. Independence B at their crease at the wicket faltered from the start mainly due to a hat trick from Man-of–the- Match youth player K. Maniram who returned the figures of 4-5-8.

The $600,000 competition continues this weekend with matches being played in both Zone A, the premiere zone and Zone B the lower zone.
In Zone  A four matches are set for today starting at 14:00 hours with Windsor Forest  vs   Canal # 2 Sports Club at Canal # 2 Sports Club,  All Youths vs Crane at Zeeburg,   Wales vs Cultural A at Wales , Mc Gill vs Meet-En-Meer-Zorg West at Meten-Meer-Zorg West.

Play continues in Zone A tomorrow  with  Windsor Forest tackling Zeeburg at Zeeburg   – 10:00 hrs and then  Crane at Zeeburg – 14:00 hrs, All Youths  vs  Canal # 2 Sports Club at Cultural Ground – Canal # 2 – 10:00 hrs.  Cornelia Ida are also in for a double header playing against Mc Gill at home  – 10:00 hrs, then Wales at 14:00 hrs. In Zone A after the completion of two rounds CCC and Zeeburg lead the standings with the maximum eight points.
In zone B action bowls off at 14:00 hrs with United Cricket Club vs Independence B  at La Grange,  Uitvlugt  vs Cultural B at Uitvlugt, Goed Fortuin vs Shamrock at Cornelia Ida, and Canal # 2 B vs Windsor Forest B at Cultural Ground – Canal # 2.

Meanwhile play continues in the same zone tomorrow  with Western United vs United Cricket Club at La Grange – 10:00 hrs, then Malverns at 14:00 hrs. Leonora vs Goed Fortuin at  Uitvlugt  – 10:00 hrs, Uitvlugt vs Belle West at Uitvlugt  – 14:00 hrs. Malvern and Independence A are tied on eight points but Independence A having played three matches and lost one is at a disadvantage.
