Gardner honoured by Banks DIH, GABBFF

Banks DIH Sports Club, Banks DIH and the Guyana Amateur Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (GABBFF) on Monday honoured one of Guyana’s most decorated bodybuilders, Sylvan Gardner.
Gardner recently won the Open men’s lightweight and overall titles at the 2008 Musclemania Superbody Championships at Kingsborough College’s Performing Arts Center in New York, and he also won a Muscle Mania pro card which allows him to compete professionally internationally.

Gardner, in brief remarks, said that he was quite happy with his achievement and to be honoured by his association and the well recognized bodybuilding sponsor Banks DIH.

“I would also like to thank Hugh Ross who took care of me leading up to the competition. He coached me up to the day of competition where I felt quite confident,” the four-time CAC champion said.

The champion who stood at 5’6” stated that he was looking forward to representing Guyana in the future at numerous competitions. He disclosed, however, that he has encountered sponsorship problems in getting to a few tournaments abroad. Both President of the GABBFF, Frank Tucker and Banks DIH Public Relations Manager Troy Peters, congratulated Gardner for his achievements.

Peters stated that Banks, who has been a proud sponsor of GABBFF events, would like to acknowledge Gardner for the hard work he has done to make not only himself proud but the entire country.

Tucker, on the other hand, gave a recap of when Gardner first entered the sport.
“When I first saw Sylvan I knew that he would be a force to reckon with. I followed his upward movement in the sport and he has proved that he can compete with anyone, anywhere in the world,” Tucker stated.

And commending Gardner for his efforts, Minister of Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony also noted that, “We need resources to help us move from competition to competition and that’s where Banks DIH stepped in by supporting the bodybuilding fraternity quite tangibly over the years.”
