48th GTU National School Championships…

North Georgetown retained their swimming title when they won the swimming championships at this year’s Guyana Teachers Union (GTU) National Schools Championships.

North Georgetown amassed 304 ½ points while East Georgetown (District 12) was second  with  237 points and hosts Upper Demerara/Kwakwani (District 10) third with 168 points.
National swimmer Henk Lowe of District 12 was the champion boy in the Open category winning all his races while  Shek Amir of District 10 was the runner up.

The champion girl in the Open category was Noelle Smith who also won all of her races;securing 30 points.

In the girls’ U14 category, North Georgetown’s Brittany van Lange was declared champion girl with 28 points while Ronaldo Rodrigues also of District 11 took the champion boy award with 26 points.
The U12 champion boy was Disrict 11’s Shane Baksh with 20 points with team-mate Shawn Baksh, 19 points, the runner up.

Stephen King also of District 11 won the boys’ U10 champions trophy while Dylan Nurse of District 12 was the runner up.

Last year the North Georgetown zone won the swimming championship and ultimately the National School Championships by 0.5 points from District 6 Corentyne while District 10 was third.
