Former national middle-order batsman Rabindranauth Seeram was removed from the selection panel of the Demerara Cricket Board (DCB) and did not resign as was reported in another section of the press.
The Kaieteur News yesterday reported that Seeram, the former Guyana middle-order batsman had resigned because of the level of insularity displayed by his fellow selectors.
It added that former Guyana medium-fast bowler Roderick Lovell had walked out of the meeting for apparently the same reason.
But at a press conference held at the Demerara Cricket Club in Queenstown yesterday, DCB president Bissoondyal Singh admitted that Lovell had walked out of the meeting but said that Seeram was removed as selector.
Singh said a meeting of the selectors was scheduled for Monday last at 4pm but at 2pm, Seeram and one of the three other selectors had already decided on the composition of the team for the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB)/Pepsi/Carib 20/20 Inter-County cricket competition. That was missing six of the players in the present team, Singh disclosed.
He added that this was certainly not the way to go as it is mandated that all four selectors must meet and decide on the composition of teams.
Seeram has been replaced by Krishchand Mangal.
Singh said that Lovell was upset with some of the names put forward but he was out voted on them three to one.
Lovell subsequently walked out of the meeting much to the amazement of the other selectors and refused to sign the selectors’ team sheet.
