President of the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) Claude Blackmore has expressed satisfaction with the performance of Ricardo Martin and Janella Jonas, who participated in the just concluded South American Youth Championships in Lima, Peru.
He indicated that the association had expected both athletes to medal, especially in the light of the outstanding performances Martin had put in during the National Schools Championships at the Mackenzie Sports Club ground.
In addition, he was high in praise of Jonas who won a bronze medal in the female 800m. He noted that to secure a medal of any kind is a great achievement for any locally-based athlete, given the grave disadvantages under which they train.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that both athletes will be eligible to compete in the next edition of this championship in 2011.
