Friendship Secondary defeated New Diamond Secondary School in the East Bank zone final played recently at the Diamond Community Centre ground.
New Diamond batted first and was dismissed for 59 off 19.3 overs with Nolance Reuben, 15, the top scorer.
Melissa Kishun grabbed 3-14, Sharanda Lyttle 2-3 and Pamela London 2-10.
In reply, Friendship coasted to a four-wicket victory reaching the New Diamond bowlers led by Lotaya Jarvis 2-0-27-2. Eugene Trotman and Abena Scot with one apiece could not stop the rampant Friendship girls as they coasted home by four wickets on the heels of Heema Singh, 25, and Ossita Pilgrim, 10, to ensure their entry into the Demerara semi-finals.
The Friendship girls are now awaiting the winner of the East Coast Zone in one semi-final while the other will see the Georgetown winners being pitted against the West Demerara zone winners in the other. These matches are slated for the new school term in January of 2009.
With three first round wins, they reached the semi-finals of the East Bank Zone of the Ministry of Education , National Sports Commission (NSC) and Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) female Under-19 Inter-Secondary Schools 20-over competition.
In the Group `B’ match played recently, Friendship Secondary School (FSS) defeated Soesdyke Com-munity High School (SCHS) by eight wickets at the Diamond ground.
SCHS batted first and were bundled out for 57 off 10 overs with Anastacia Yearwood top scoring with 14.
Pilgrim with 2-5 was the pick of the bowlers.
FSS, in reply, hit off the required runs for the loss of two wickets.
Pilgrim returned with the bat to score an unbeaten 23 supported by Singh with 19.
In the second round Covent Garden Secondary (CGS) was dismissed for 60 off the penultimate over.
Pilgrim again was in good form with the ball returning figures of 2-12 while Thresha Cordis chipped in with 2-10 and Singh 1-14.
Top scorers for CGS were Devika Sukhnandan, 21, Rohall Green, 16, and Omadai Bishun, 15.
In reply, FSS hit off the runs for the loss of one wicket off 14.2 overs. Opener Bibi Khan who made 11 was the only wicket to fall as Singh, 32, not-out and Bishun, 15, not-out ensured a nine-wicket win with 5.4 overs remaining.
Shawando Bernard with 1-2 off was the successful bowler.
In the third round Covent Garden Secondary took on SCHS at the Diamond Community Centre ground.
CGS batted first and was dismissed for 53 off 9.5 overs.
Janesha Matthews top scored with 19 while Tonica Thomas, 3-20, Ingralla Barker, 2-9, and Leona Matthews, 2-10, were the wicket takers.
Thomas returned with the bat to stroke 20 for an excellent all round performance and Cheemona Crandon chipped in with 19 as the SCHS girls hit off the target for the loss of only two wickets.
