Sparrow meets the Dragonaires on November 1

If there is a show worth chunking out some cash for in this current climate of economic uncertainties it is Mike Fung’s ‘Sparrow meets the Dragonaires’, set for next Saturday; two musical giants coming together on a single night.

Sparrow may be past his prime and ‘fading’ as some critics have observed, but the ‘Birdy’ still has wings and he is expected to fly into Guyana and put on a show worth seeing. Bryon Lee and the Dragonaries remains among the Caribbean’s most versatile performers.

Though his performances had been far and few in-between in recent years, Sparrow still carries the title of ‘Calypso King’; his voice remains as infectious as before.

Bryon Lee and the Dragonaires has been on a non-stop performance schedule since the beginning of the year, touring North America and the Caribbean spreading its fusion of soca, ska and reggae vibes. Promoter Mike Fung is pretty confident that the combination of Sparrow and the Dragonaires in itself is enough to draw fans. He is not particularly worried about the critics and is focused instead on putting on a quality show.

He told The Scene earlier this week that the show is momentous since, “we have never seen these two on a stage together”. Fung said that Sparrow and the Dragonaires are currently on a tour and that a Guyana leg is billed for November 1 at Thirst Park.

Fung stressed that the show is clean entertainment and pointed out that they already in talks to have adequate security in place. He added that local acts are also billed to perform with support from Mingles Sound Machine; Lion Heart and Fusion Sounds.

Tickets for the show costs $2,000 in advance; $2,500 at the gate and $10,000 for VIP treatment. Fung pointed out that it is all VAT inclusive.
