Benn issues ultimatum

Air traffic controllers defiant Minister of Transport and Hydraulics, Robeson Benn yesterday issued an ultimatum to striking air traffic controllers to immediately return to their jobs or be considered voluntarily separated but at press time last night the workers were refusing to budge until outstanding wage and other issues are addressed.

NY-based man remanded over traffic death

New York-based Chaitram Karam was refused bail and remanded to prison when he appeared before Magistrate Krishendat Persaud  at the New Amsterdam Court yesterday to answer to a number of traffic charges, including causing death by dangerous driving.

Carbon storage survey pact sealed

The World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Guianas yesterday signed a Grant Agreement valued at $23.8M with the Guyana Forestry Commission (GFC), in support of government’s bid to quantify the carbon storage capacity in Guyana’s forests.

Prisoner in suicide bid leaves hospital

The convicted prisoner, who attempted suicide in the Camp Street jail last week, was yesterday discharged from hospital and according to Prison Director Dale Erskine measures will have to be put in place to ensure that he is counselled.
