Minister of Human Services & Social Security Priya Manickchand yesterday condemned the “horrific” torture of a 15-year-old murder suspect by policemen at the Leonora Police Station and said she expects the perpetrators will face the full force of the law.

Some Hunter St fire victims already rebuilding

Residents of a six-apartment building at Lot 101 Hunter Street, West La Penitence which was destroyed by fire late Saturday afternoon have begun to pick up the pieces, with some families temporarily seeking shelter with their relatives while some have started rebuilding  structures on the burnt out site.

A 16-year-old boy, who told the court that he did not know that it was cannabis that a former schoolmate had given him as a birthday gift, was on Friday ordered to pay a fine of $4,000 and also do  three weeks of  community service when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.

Miner’s body awaiting identification

The body of a miner, said to be in his thirties, is currently awaiting identification at the Lyken’s Funeral home in the city after he was brought out of the interior on Saturday afternoon following an accident at a mining operation.
