Opposition parties pillory Jagdeo on torture probe

Opposition parties yesterday flayed President Bharrat Jagdeo’s announcement that he has ordered the police to conduct an investigation into the recent torture of a 15-year-old murder suspect, saying it lacked credibility and that an independent and detailed probe was needed.

Woman soldier dies in car crash

A military woman was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) early yesterday morning after suffering injuries when the car she was in slammed into a concrete structure at the Texaco Gas Station at Bel Air.

Murder charge reinstated against accused cutlass killer

Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on Thursday ordered that a man who allegedly hacked his father to death with a cutlass last year be remanded to prison when a murder charge was reinstated against him at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court The previous murder case against Andrew Gomes, 21, of Waiakabra on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway had been discharged last week at the Providence Magistrates’ Court because of the absence of the case file with the relevant statements.
