A 54-year-old tractor driver died early yesterday after being crushed by the vehicle which he fell out of at Pork Bridge in the Rupununi Savannahs.
Dead is Ernest Phillips of St. Ignatius. Police, in a press release stated that the incident is being investigated. The incident occurred at about 12:45 am yesterday at Pork Bridge, which is about six miles away from Lethem.
Police said that investigations revealed that Phillips was driving a tractor and trailer from Karasabai to Lethem when it is alleged that he encountered some difficulties in controlling the vehicle and fell out of the vehicle which ran over him. Three other men, who were with him, escaped unhurt.
The police are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination, the release stated.
